Target Information

Fibroblast growth factor 7 (FGF7) is crucial in regulating embryonic development, cell proliferation, and differentiation. It is essential for proper branching morphogenesis and acts as a growth factor specifically active on keratinocytes, possibly serving as a key paracrine agent in normal epithelial cell proliferation. In mice, FGF7 has various biological roles, such as regulating hair development, promoting wound healing, contributing to neurogenesis and synapse formation, protecting heart function, and regulating the pain response. The absence of FGF7 leads to abnormal hair development but does not impact normal epidermal growth or skin wound healing. This indicates that FGF7 is vital for hair follicle growth and differentiation, operating independently of other known hair growth pathways.
