Target Information

ATP-binding cassette sub-family A member 13 (ABCA13) is believed to facilitate the transport of cholesterol and gangliosides from the plasma membrane to intracellular vesicles in an ATP hydrolysis-dependent manner. This process likely contributes to their internalization via endocytic retrograde transport and might also play a role in the endocytosis of synaptic vesicles in cortical neurons. In mice, ABCA13 is primarily associated with lipid transport and maintaining intracellular cholesterol balance. As one of the largest ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, ABCA13 comprises approximately 5058 to 5700 amino acids. It is widely expressed in mice, particularly in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, and other central nervous system tissues.
