Target Information

Different isoforms of β-tubulin have distinct functions, such as maintaining microtubule stability and dynamics, participating in cell division, and facilitating signal transduction. The expression and function of β-tubulin are influenced by various regulatory mechanisms, including hormonal signaling and gene expression control. In mice, the functional diversity of β-tubulin is closely tied to its role in different cell structures and functions. As a component of microtubules, β-tubulin forms heterodimers with α-tubulin to assemble microtubules that are essential for maintaining cell shape, enabling cell division, supporting intracellular transport, and mediating signal transduction. Mice possess multiple β-tubulin isotypes, such as Mβ2, Mβ4, and Mβ5, each exhibiting distinct expression patterns across various tissues and developmental stages, highlighting their involvement in specific cellular activities. These isoforms also vary in function; for instance, Mβ5, although a minor and ubiquitously expressed isoform, can disrupt microtubule structure when overexpressed, thus inhibiting cell proliferation.
