Target Information

Adenosylhomocysteinase catalyzes the hydrolysis of S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine into adenosine and homocysteine and has the ability to bind copper ions. AHCY is crucial for embryonic development and the maintenance of embryonic stem cells (mESCs). It supports the self-renewal and differentiation potential of mESCs by regulating metabolic homeostasis, epigenetic remodeling, and transcriptional regulation. AHCY plays a significant role in the methylation metabolic pathway by maintaining the methylation levels of DNA, RNA, and histones through the clearance of excess SAH. This function is especially important during cell division and active transcription, processes that require extensive methylation reactions.
