Target Information

Type VII collagen is a lengthy collagen chain characterized by a central triple-helical region and two non-collagenous areas (NC-1 and NC-2). This distinct structure allows it to interact with various components within the epidermal basement membrane zone, including integrins and extracellular matrix proteins, thereby facilitating the formation of anchoring fibers. In mouse models, lacking type VII collagen or having functional defects can result in significant skin lesions. For instance, in a recessive hereditary mouse model of dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DEB), mutations in the type VII collagen gene (COL7A1) cause the loss of anchoring fibers, which leads to extensive skin blistering and tissue separation.

Target/Biomarker Mouse COL7
Target Synonym COL7-A1; COL7A1; EBD1; EBDCT; EBR1; Long-chain collagen; Epidermolysis Bullosa;Dystrophic;Dominant And Recessive; Collagen Alpha-1(VII)chain
