Target Information

D-dimer is the end product of plasmin digestion of cross-linked fibrin formed during thrombosis, along with other cross-linked fibrin degradation products. Normally, D-dimer is undetectable or only present at very low levels unless the body is forming and breaking down significant blood clots. High levels of D-dimer occur in many conditions, including septic joint disease, colic, and endurance exercise in horses.
