Target Information

Eosinophil peroxidase (EPX) is an enzyme found within the eosinophil granulocytes, which are innate immune cells in humans and mammals. Eosinophil Peroxidase is encoded by the EPX gene in pigs. Eosinophil peroxidase is likely to play an important role in asthma through the production of reactive brominating species. The involvement of eosinophil peroxidase in asthma has been suggested by the presence of bromotyrosine in the airways and sputum of asthmatics.
