Target Information

Trans-acting T-cell-specific transcription factor GATA-3 acts as a transcriptional activator, binding to the enhancer regions of the T-cell receptor alpha and delta genes. It specifically binds to the consensus sequence 5'-AGATAG-3' and is essential for T-helper 2 (Th2) cell differentiation after immune and inflammatory responses. GATA-3 also positively regulates the expression of ASB2. Additionally, GATA-3 is vital for the functional maturation of mouse cochlear inner hair cells (IHCs). A deficiency in GATA-3 results in IHCs failing to develop mature characteristics, such as basilar membrane current acquisition, maintenance of presynaptic currents, and synaptic connection formation. This leads to increased auditory brainstem response (ABR) thresholds, indicative of hearing impairment.
