Target Information
In rabbits, Interleukin 8 is encoded by the CXCL8 gene. It serves as a chemotactic factor mediating the inflammatory response by attracting neutrophils, basophils, and T-cells to eliminate pathogens and safeguard the host from infections. Additionally, it is crucial in neutrophil activation. Released in response to inflammatory stimuli, it exerts its effects by binding to the G-protein-coupled receptors CXCR1 and CXCR2, which are primarily located on neutrophils, monocytes, and endothelial cells. IL-8 may play a key role in the inflammatory response in rabbits, especially in the early stages after platelet activation.
