Target Information
sCD14 is a pattern recognition receptor that identifies the endotoxin LPS from Gram-negative bacteria and triggers an immune response by interacting with Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). However, sCD14's function is multifaceted and can vary under different conditions. At high doses of LPS, sCD14 can mitigate the inflammatory response by limiting the amount of LPS that binds to monocytes, thus reducing inflammation. Studies have shown that mice with elevated sCD14 levels have higher survival rates during LPS-induced endotoxin shock. Conversely, at low doses of LPS, sCD14 may enhance immune responses. For instance, increasing sCD14 levels in the blood of mice can amplify the immune response to LPS. This indicates that sCD14 may exert different immunomodulatory effects depending on the dosage.
