Target Information

Microtubule-Associated Protein Tau (MAPT), also known simply as tau protein, is a protein found throughout the nervous system, particularly in nerve cells (neurons) within the brain. It physiologically associates with microtubules (MTs). Microtubule-associated protein tau is encoded by the chicken MAPT gene. The expression of chicken tau isoforms and their phosphorylation are developmentally regulated, similar to what has been described in the mammalian brain.
