Foods such as fatty fish (like salmon and mackerel), beef liver, egg yolks, and cheese naturally contain vitamin D3. It is crucial for bone health because it helps the body absorb calcium. It also plays a role in muscle function, immune health, and brain cell activity. Large parenteral doses of vitamin D3 were associated with prolonged hypercalcemia, hyperphosphatemia, and large increases of vitamin D3 and its metabolites in the blood plasma of nonlactating nonpregnant and pregnant Jersey cows
