Target Information

Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) plays a crucial role in regulating phosphate homeostasis. It inhibits renal tubular phosphate transport by decreasing SLC34A1 levels and acts directly on the parathyroid gland to reduce PTH secretion. In mice, FGF23 has complex and varied functions, including maintaining phosphorus and vitamin D metabolism balance, regulating bone mineralization, and supporting cardiovascular health. However, its overexpression or dysfunction can lead to severe pathological conditions such as hypophosphatemia, osteoporosis, and cardiovascular diseases. FGF23 is a hormone secreted by osteocytes that inhibits renal phosphorus reabsorption and the synthesis of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH)2D) by activating the FGFR/αKlotho complex signaling pathway, thus maintaining phosphorus homeostasis in the body.
