Target Information
Glutathione peroxidase 4, or GPX4, is an enzyme encoded by the GPX4 gene in chickens. As a phospholipid hydroperoxidase, GPX4 protects cells from membrane lipid peroxidation. GPX4 is a selenoprotein whose main function is to protect cells from oxidative stress damage by reducing hydrogen peroxide and other oxidants. GPX4 plays an important role in antioxidant defense, cell survival and iron death regulation. While GPX4 is typically expressed at low levels and exhibits resistance to selenium deficiency in mammalian tissues, it is abundantly expressed in chicken tissues and is significantly impacted by selenium deficiency.
