Target Information

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) is a dipeptidyl carboxypeptidase that cleaves dipeptides from the C-terminus of various circulating hormones, such as angiotensin I, bradykinin, and enkephalins. This function is crucial for regulating blood pressure, maintaining electrolyte balance, and contributing to synaptic plasticity. In mice, ACE plays vital roles in blood pressure regulation, kidney development and function, male reproductive health, erythropoiesis, and the homeostatic regulation of β-amyloid protein in the brain. Mice deficient in ACE exhibit significant hypotension and renal abnormalities, including tubular atrophy and glomerular capillary dilation.
