Bovine Inter-Alpha-Trypsin Inhibitor Heavy Chain H4 is encoded by the ITIH4 gene in cattle. ITIH4 is part of the inter-alpha-trypsin inhibitor (ITI) family. It is secreted into the blood and undergoes cleavage by plasma kallikrein into two smaller forms. Although its precise function is not fully understood, it seems to be involved in inflammatory responses to trauma. It has been identified as a positive acute-phase protein in cattle.
