Target Information
Mast cells release carboxypeptidase A (Cpa3) alongside other proteases to break down the harmful components of snake and bee venoms, thus greatly reducing the toxic effects and mortality associated with these venoms. For instance, mice that lack Cpa3 exhibit significantly reduced tolerance to snake venom, highlighting the crucial role Cpa3 plays in defending against snake venom toxins. Carboxypeptidase A also participates in the degradation of fibrin, particularly under heparin-dependent conditions. Mice deficient in carboxypeptidase A struggle to effectively degrade fibrin, which may impact inflammatory responses and the process of tissue repair.
