Target Information
Carboxypeptidase E (CPE), also known as carboxypeptidase H (CPH) and enkephalin convertase, is an enzyme encoded by the bovine CPE gene. CPE catalyzes the release of C-terminal arginine or lysine residues from polypeptides. It plays a crucial role in the biosynthesis of most neuropeptides and peptide hormones. It was first identified as a carboxypeptidase B-like enzyme involved in the biosynthesis of enkephalin in bovine adrenal chromaffin granules.
