Target Information
L-dopachrome Tautomerase is encoded by the DCT gene in pigs. DCT acts downstream of tyrosinase (TYR) in the melanogenesis pathway. It catalyzes the rearrangement of dopachrome into 5,6-dihydroxyindole-2-carboxylate (DHICA), which is further oxidized to the corresponding quinone by the activity of TRP1 in mice or by TYR in humans It has been associated with melanocyte differentiation and pigment cell differentiation. It can also affect coat color in mice.
