Target Information
Growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), also known as somatocrinin, is a hormone produced in the hypothalamus. Its main role is to stimulate the pituitary gland to produce and release growth hormone (GH) into the bloodstream. Growth hormone releasing hormone is encoded by the porcine GHRH gene. Research has shown that injection and expression of porcine GHRH gene plasmid in skeletal muscle of pigs stimulates GHRH and GH secretion and increases circulating IGF-I concentration in piglets, improving growth performance and feed conversion.
