Target Information

Caspase-7 is a thiol protease that plays a role in various programmed cell death processes, including apoptosis, pyroptosis, and granzyme-mediated cell death, by cleaving specific target proteins. It shows a strong preference for Asp-Glu-Val-Asp (DEVD) consensus sequences, though it can also interact with some non-canonical sequences. In mice, caspase-7 is crucial for regulating apoptosis, inflammatory responses, neurodegenerative diseases, and tumorigenesis. In the spinocerebellar ataxia (SCA7) model, the cleavage of the atrophin-7 protein by caspase-7 is a key early event in the disease's pathology. Research has demonstrated that inhibiting caspase-7 activity can significantly enhance motor performance, reduce neurodegenerative changes, and extend the lifespan of SCA7 mice.
