Target Information
Corticosterone is the precursor molecule of the mineralocorticoid aldosterone, one of the most important homeostatic modulators of sodium and potassium levels in vivo. It is converted to aldosterone by aldosterone synthase, found in the mitochondria of glomerulosa cells in the adrenal cortex. Research has shown that porcine brain polypeptides have protective effects against corticosterone-induced oxidative stress, inflammatory response and apoptosis in PC12 cells.
