Target Information
Cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1) induces hypertrophy of cardiac myocytes in vitro by binding to and activating the ILST/gp130 receptor. As a cytokine part of the IL-6 family, CT-1 exhibits multiple biological functions. Research in mice highlights CT-1's significant role across various systems, such as the heart, nervous system, metabolism, and vascular function. Mice deficient in CT-1 display metabolic disorders, including obesity, hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, and hypercholesterolemia. In a renal fibrosis model, administering exogenous CT-1 has been shown to minimize tubular damage and fibrosis. Additionally, in colorectal cancer cells, CT-1 inhibits liver tumor metastasis through a mechanism mediated by the immune system.
