Target Information
Triosephosphate isomerase is a highly efficient metabolic enzyme responsible for catalyzing the interconversion between dihydroxyacetone phosphate (DHAP) and D-glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate (G3P) during glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. The Tpi1 gene encodes for the enzyme glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (TPI), a vital component of the glycolysis pathway. In mice, a deficiency or decrease in TPI activity results in severe hemolytic anemia. For instance, mice with mutations in the Tpi1 gene exhibit symptoms such as a shortened lifespan of red blood cells, impaired maturation of red blood cells, and megaloblastic anemia.
