Target Information

Rabbit Protein S100-A12 (S100A12) is a calcium-binding protein that plays important roles in both intracellular and extracellular processes. It is primarily expressed in neutrophils and can be induced in macrophages and smooth muscle cells. Intracellularly, S100A12 is involved in modulating interactions between the cytoskeleton and membranes and has Ca2+-dependent chaperone/anti-chaperone functions. It also inhibits the aggregation of certain enzymes like aldolase and GAPDH. Extracellularly, S100A12 exhibits chemotactic activity for monocytes and mast cells and can activate intracellular signaling cascades leading to cytokine production and oxidative stress. It is also implicated in vascular remodeling and has been found in human aortic aneurysms. Additionally, S100A12 has antimicrobial properties and can inhibit the growth and motility of certain parasites. Its expression and activity make it a potential marker for inflammatory conditions and a target for therapeutic interventions.
