Target Information
Mouse Tissue Factor (F3) is a transmembrane protein that plays a crucial role in blood coagulation and is essential for normal hemostasis. It is expressed in various cells, including endothelial cells, macrophages, and some cancer cells. F3 interacts with factor VIIa to form a complex that initiates the extrinsic coagulation pathway by activating factors IX and X, leading to thrombin generation and fibrin clot formation. In mouse models, F3 is involved in embryonic development, particularly in vascular formation and maintenance. It is also implicated in pathological conditions such as thrombosis, inflammation, and tumor progression. F3's procoagulant activity is regulated by tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) and antithrombin, ensuring controlled coagulation. Additionally, F3 has been studied in the context of diseases like atherosclerosis and cancer, where it contributes to plaque stability and tumor-associated coagulopathy. Mouse models lacking F3 exhibit embryonic lethality, highlighting its critical role in development and hemostasis.
