Target Information
In mice, Prothrombin (F2) is a vitamin K-dependent glycoprotein synthesized in the liver, playing a critical role in blood coagulation and hemostasis. It is converted into thrombin by Factor Xa, which then catalyzes the transformation of fibrinogen into fibrin, forming blood clots. F2 also participates in platelet aggregation and the activation of additional coagulation factors. Most mice lacking F2 die during the embryonic stage due to vascular defects, while rare survivors often succumb to hemorrhage shortly after birth. F2 is involved in various physiological processes, including cell proliferation, tissue repair, and angiogenesis. It also helps maintain vascular integrity during development and postnatal life. Abnormalities in F2 have been linked to thrombosis and dysprothrombinemia, making it a key target in coagulation research and anticoagulant therapy.
