Target Information
Bovine E-selectin is a cell surface glycoprotein that is crucial in the regulation of leukocyte trafficking and adhesion to the endothelium in cattle. This protein is primarily expressed on activated endothelial cells and plays a significant role in the initial steps of the adhesion cascade, facilitating the tethering and rolling of leukocytes, such as neutrophils and lymphocytes, at the site of inflammation or infection. E-selectin's expression is upregulated by various immunomodulators, including tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS), which are released during inflammatory responses. It is also involved in the migration of hematopoietic stem cells and is important for their homing to the bone marrow niche. The interaction of E-selectin with its ligands on leukocytes activates intracellular signaling pathways, leading to cytoskeletal rearrangements and changes in cell morphology that are essential for leukocyte adhesion and migration. Additionally, soluble forms of E-selectin, generated by cleaving membrane-bound E-selectin, can serve as markers of endothelial cell activation and have been implicated in various diseases, including cancer and inflammatory conditions .
