Target Information
Mouse Procathepsin L (Ctsl) is a lysosomal cysteine protease that plays a significant role in various physiological and pathological processes. It is involved in the degradation of proteins within lysosomes, contributing to the overall protein turnover in cells. In the thyroid gland, Ctsl facilitates the release of thyroid hormones by cleaving thyroglobulin. Within the immune system, Ctsl is implicated in antigen processing and presentation, influencing T cell selection and immune response regulation. Furthermore, Ctsl has been associated with tumor progression and metastasis, as it can degrade extracellular matrix components, promoting cancer cell invasion. Studies have also shown that Ctsl is involved in processes such as hair follicle morphogenesis, skin differentiation, and cardiac function. Its multifaceted roles make it a subject of interest for both basic research and potential therapeutic interventions in related disease contexts.
