Target Information
Mouse Interleukin-5 (Il5) is a cytokine produced by activated CD4+ T cells, particularly Th2 cells, playing a crucial role in the development, differentiation, and activation of eosinophils. It binds to the Il5 receptor alpha subunit on eosinophils, promoting their maturation and release from the bone marrow. Il5 also enhances eosinophil effector functions, such as the production of reactive oxygen species and the release of granule contents. In mouse models of allergic inflammation and asthma, Il5 has been shown to drive eosinophilic infiltration into the airways and exacerbate disease pathology. Research on Il5 in mice has contributed to our understanding of its therapeutic potential in treating eosinophilic disorders.
