Target Information
Chicken Transcription Factor GATA-5 (GATA5) is a transcription factor that contains two GATA-type zinc fingers. It plays a crucial role in the development of the heart and gut by regulating gene expression. GATA5 is essential for the proper development of heart muscle precursor cells and the differentiation of myocardial cells. In the gut, GATA5 is involved in the regulation of intestinal lactase-phlorizin hydrolase promoter activation. Additionally, GATA5 is implicated in the specification of heart tissue that becomes the ventricles and in the regulation of other genes crucial for successful heart development. Abnormal expression of GATA5 can lead to developmental defects, including issues with heart pacing and rhythm.
