Target Information
IgM is the largest of several isotypes of antibodies (also known as immunoglobulins) produced by vertebrates. Antibodies of this class produced early in a viral infection may indicate ongoing or recent viral replication. IgM is the first antibody to appear in response to initial exposure to an antigen, earning it the name "acute phase antibody." The IgM test is a useful method for diagnosing current or recent canine distemper virus (CDV) infections in dogs and mink.
