Target Information
Mouse Cytochrome P450 7A1 (Cyp7a1) is a key enzyme in the bile acid synthesis pathway, responsible for the conversion of cholesterol to 7α-hydroxycholesterol. This enzyme is a member of the cytochrome P450 family and plays a crucial role in regulating cholesterol levels and maintaining bile acid homeostasis. Cyp7a1 is highly expressed in the liver and is regulated by various factors, including bile acids themselves through the farnesoid X receptor (FXR) and the liver X receptor (LXR) . Hypoxic conditions can downregulate Cyp7a1 expression through the hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) pathway, which limits the availability of its substrate, oxygen, and decreases transcription .
