Target Information
Feline polycomb complex protein BMI-1 is a key component of the Polycomb Repressive Complex 1 (PRC1), which regulates gene silencing and chromatin remodeling. It suppresses gene expression by ubiquitinating histone H2A (H2AK119ub1) and is essential for the self-renewal of normal and cancer stem cells. BMI-1 also inhibits p16 and p19 to promote cell proliferation. In the nervous system, it delays aging by suppressing p53. It participates in signaling pathways like Wnt, Notch, and Hedgehog, regulating stem cell differentiation. Abnormal BMI-1 function in cats may be associated with hematopoietic and neurological disorders.
