Target Information
Mouse Granzyme K (Gzmk) is a serine protease belonging to the granzyme family, which plays a crucial role in immune responses and inflammation. Traditionally known for its cytotoxic functions in CD8+ T cells and natural killer (NK) cells, Gzmk has recently been identified as a potent activator of the complement cascade. It can cleave complement proteins C4 and C2 to form C4b and C2b, leading to the formation of the C3 convertase and subsequent activation of the entire complement system. This activation results in the production of anaphylatoxins like C3a and C5a, which are key mediators of inflammation. In mouse models, Gzmk deficiency has been shown to protect against inflammatory conditions such as dermatitis and complement activation.
