Target Information

Chicken fibroblast growth factor 9 (Fgf9) is a member of the fibroblast growth factor family (FGFs), widely distributed in various tissues and involved in multiple physiological and pathological processes, including skeletal development, angiogenesis, embryonic development, tissue repair, cell apoptosis, and nerve regeneration. In chickens, Fgf9 is broadly expressed during embryonic development, including in the heart and lungs, and more selectively in the central nervous system and kidneys in adulthood. Fgf9 acts mainly on mesenchymal cells by binding to the IIIc isoforms of FGF receptors (FGFR), promoting cell proliferation and survival. Additionally, Fgf9 plays a role in ovarian function in chickens, potentially slowing follicular differentiation by inhibiting IGF-I action. These studies indicate that Fgf9 is crucial for growth, development, and reproductive processes in chickens.
