Target Information
Mouse Myosin-2 (Myh2) is a key protein in skeletal muscle fibers, primarily expressed in fast-twitch muscle fibers. It plays a crucial role in muscle contraction and movement by converting chemical energy into mechanical force through ATP hydrolysis. Myh2 is essential for maintaining muscle function and is involved in various motility-related processes within eukaryotic cells. Mutations in the Myh2 gene have been associated with skeletal myopathies, characterized by ophthalmoplegia and other muscle-related disorders. In developmental studies, Myh2 is expressed in fetal or early postnatal muscle and is upregulated during the transition from neonatal to adult fast myosin expression. Myh2 is also implicated in muscle fiber type specification and regulation, with its expression controlled by specific regulatory elements within the Myh gene cluster.
