Target Information
Mouse Thioredoxin-Interacting Protein (Txnip) is a key regulator of cellular redox balance and inflammation. It interacts with thioredoxin (Trx) to inhibit its antioxidant activity, thereby influencing cellular responses to oxidative stress. Txnip also plays a crucial role in activating the NLRP3 inflammasome, a complex involved in inflammation, by binding to NLRP3 and promoting the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-1β. In metabolic contexts, Txnip is implicated in glucose and lipid metabolism, with its expression levels correlating with metabolic disorders such as diabetes. Additionally, Txnip has been shown to affect the proliferation of islet β cells by interacting with the GLP-1 receptor, reducing the proliferative effects of GLP-1.
