Target Information
The canine CTSK gene encodes Cathepsin K, a thiol protease crucial in osteoclastic bone resorption and potentially contributing to bone remodeling irregularities. Operating effectively as an endoprotease, this enzyme demonstrates significant activity on fibrinogen under acidic conditions, suggesting a key role in extracellular matrix breakdown. Cathepsin K also plays a critical part in the controlled proteolysis of TG/thyroglobulin within the thyroid follicle lumen, facilitating the release of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4).
