Target Information
Bovine amphiregulin (AREG) is a growth factor that functions as a ligand for the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). It is synthesized as a membrane-anchored pre-protein and is released after proteolytic cleavage to act as an autocrine or paracrine factor. AREG plays a crucial role in tissue repair, inflammation, and immunity, and it triggers signaling events necessary for cellular processes such as metabolism, cell cycle, and proliferation. Its expression is induced by various factors including xenobiotics, cytokines, and inflammatory lipids, and it is involved in orchestrating both tolerance and host resistance mechanisms under different inflammatory and pathogenic conditions. AREG's role in these processes makes it a potential biomarker and therapeutic target in cattle health and disease management.
