Target Information
Mouse Sepiapterin Reductase (SPR) is a NADPH-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the final step in tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) synthesis, converting sepiapterin to BH4. It is expressed in brain, liver, and adrenal glands, where it maintains BH4 levels essential for nitric-oxide synthase and aromatic amino-acid hydroxylases. Loss of SPR activity impairs neurotransmitter production and raises oxidative stress. As the key checkpoint of BH4 metabolism, SPR is an important target for studies of neurotransmission, hypertension, and metabolic disorders.
