Specifications
Target Information
Somatostatin Receptor Type 2 is encoded by the SSTR2 gene in pigs. SSTR2 belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor family. In the pancreas, after binding to somatostatin, it inhibits the secretion of peptide hormones from pancreatic islets. During development, it stimulates neuronal migration and axon outgrowth. In general, SSTR1, SSTR2, SSTR4 and SSTR5 produce cytostatic effects through similar downstream effector pathways, whereas SSTR2 and SSTR3 induce pro-apoptotic (cytotoxic) signals when activated.
