Target Information
In mice, the primary function of macrophage-derived chemokine (MDC) is to act as a ligand for the chemokine receptor CCR4, thereby regulating the migration and function of immune cells. As a member of the CC chemokine family, MDC shares high homology with TARC (thymus and activation-regulated chemokine), but unlike TARC, MDC is more broadly expressed in mice. It is found in various immune cells, such as monocytes, dendritic cells (DC), and Th2 cells. In experimental models, MDC attracts CCR4-positive immune cells and contributes to various disease models. For instance, in a mouse lung infection model, mice lacking CCR8 exhibited improved bacterial clearance. Additionally, MDC plays significant regulatory roles in liver injury and within the tumor microenvironment.
