Target Information
In mice, oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL) plays diverse biological roles, impacting the immune system, inflammatory responses, atherosclerosis, and the liver's lymphatic system. oxLDL inhibits lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced interleukin-12 (IL-12) production in macrophages by interacting with peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ) and nuclear factor κB (NF-κB), with the inhibition being dose-dependent. In contrast, non-oxidized LDL (nLDL) does not exhibit this effect. In mice on a high-fat diet, oxLDL notably impairs the liver's lymphatic system function, demonstrated by decreased lymphatic drainage of FITC-Dextran, potentially linked to metabolic and transcriptional shifts in hepatocytes. Additionally, oxLDL influences protein transport by modulating the expression of VE-Cadherin, which leads to reduced permeability of lymphatic endothelial cells.
