Target Information

Villin 1 is encoded by the VIL1 gene in pigs. Villin is a protein associated with the actin core bundle of the brush border. It plays essential roles in bundling, nucleation, capping, and severing of actin filaments, supporting the microfilaments of the microvilli in the brush border of vertebrate epithelium, and contributing to cell plasticity through F-actin severing. Villin 1 has the ability to dimerize, with the dimerization site located at the amino end of the protein.
