Target Information

X-ray repair cross-complementing protein 6 is a single-stranded DNA-dependent, ATP-dependent helicase vital for DNA non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) by recruiting DNA-PK to DNA. It is essential for repairing double-strand breaks, V(D)J recombination, and plays a role in chromosome translocation. As part of the Ku protein complex, XRCC6 forms a crucial heterodimer with XRCC5 (XRCC5/XRCC6), significantly contributing to the NHEJ pathway. This pathway repairs DNA double-strand breaks, a vital mechanism for maintaining genomic stability. In studies involving an obese mouse model, research on ovarian DNA damage induced by phosphoramide mustard (PM) revealed increased XRCC6 mRNA expression levels in obese mice. This indicates that obesity may influence cellular responses to DNA damage by altering the expression of DNA repair genes.
