Target Information

Semaphorin-3B restricts axonal growth by delivering localized signals that define areas off-limits to extending axons. This protein, primarily produced in response to 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3, is expressed by osteoblasts and is prevalent in mouse bones, particularly within osteoblasts and osteocytes. During the differentiation of osteoblasts, SEMA3B expression significantly rises, underscoring its crucial role in the physiological function of these cells. However, SEMA3B overexpression results in decreased bone density and abnormal trabecular architecture in mice. Additionally, in the context of neuronal synaptic plasticity, SEMA3B helps alleviate behavioral defects caused by chronic stress by upregulating proteins associated with synaptic plasticity.
