Target Information

Tubulin is the primary component of microtubules, which are cylindrical structures made of linear protofilaments composed of alpha- and beta-tubulin heterodimers arranged laterally. Microtubules elongate by adding GTP-tubulin dimers to their ends, forming a stabilizing cap. Beneath this cap, tubulin dimers are in a GDP-bound state due to the GTPase activity of alpha-tubulin. In mice, Tubb1 (β1-tubulin) is primarily involved in thyroid development, platelet formation, and microtubule assembly. Tubb1 knockout mice exhibit abnormal thyroid cell proliferation, delayed migration, and differentiation issues, leading to thyroid dysfunction and structural abnormalities in thyroid tissue. Additionally, Tubb1 is crucial for platelet formation, with its absence leading to irregular platelet production, characterized by increased platelet activation and aggregation, alongside a reduced platelet count.
