Target Information

NF-kappa-B is a versatile transcription factor found in nearly all cell types, acting as the culmination of a range of signal transduction events triggered by numerous stimuli involved in biological processes like inflammation, immunity, differentiation, cell growth, tumor formation, and apoptosis. The p65 protein is a crucial subunit of NF-κB. It binds with IκB protein, enters the cell nucleus upon activation, and manages the expression of genes related to inflammation. For instance, p65 can stimulate the transcription of proinflammatory agents such as IL-1β and TNF-α, thereby playing a crucial role in inflammation and immune responses. In mouse adipose tissue, an increased expression of p65 can suppress fat formation, leading to a lean body type and a decrease in both conventional and diet-induced obesity. This mechanism works by inhibiting PPARγ activity, thus reducing fat formation and boosting energy expenditure. Moreover, p65 also hinders adipocyte differentiation by regulating the expression of genes targeted by PPARγ.
