Target Information

Tubulin is the primary component of microtubules, cylinders made up of laterally associated linear protofilaments formed from alpha- and beta-tubulin heterodimers. Microtubules grow by adding GTP-tubulin dimers to their ends, where a stabilizing cap forms. Beneath this cap, tubulin dimers are in a GDP-bound state due to the GTPase activity of alpha-tubulin. Tubulin alpha-4A, a subtype of tubulin, is highly expressed in the mouse brain and plays a crucial role in neural development and remodeling. The polyacetylation of Tuba4A is a key step in neuronal pruning, a process regulated by "writer enzymes" like Tubulin Tyrosine Ligase Like Glutamylase 1 (TTL1) and "eraser enzymes" such as cytoplasmic carboxypeptidases.
